DON’T GIVE UP HERE!

I was at my nephew’s birthday party yesterday. My sister had friends there I did not know so we started talking. Of course in typical conversation someone asks “what do you do for a living?” I say, I am a ZUMBA instructor. Eyes light up and they tell me their experience with fitness and ZUMBA. Everyone loves ZUMBA!!

In this conversation the two ladies said they want to lose weight and tone up but they get frustrated when they don’t see results immediately. This sentiment is across the board for everyone getting back into fitness.

Here is the DEAL and this is what I told them. In any fitness program one needs to be CONSISTENT and DON’T GIVE UP.

When you start working out your body is going to go through a period of fluctuation. Give any program at least 6- 9 months to start seeing real changes.

First few pounds you lose is water weight. This is not the real weigh loss and it’s not going to change your body significantly.

Next what happens to your body is you start building muscles. THIS IS WHERE PEOPLE GIVE UP!! THIS IS WHY … You still have the BODY FAT, but under that is all the muscles you are working hard to build. SO you still have the layer of FAT and the start of BIGGER MUSCLES and so at this point your WEIGHT GOES UP. Instead of feeling good in your clothes you feel them tighter.

YOU WANT TO PUSH THROUGH THIS STAGE AND KEEP UP YOU FITNESS ROUTINE! DON’T GIVE UP HERE!
I RECOMMEND NOT EVEN GETTING ON THE SCALE!

You metabolism is changing and like I said above you’re working on the muscles. What happens next is your muscles start to use the fat as fuel and the weight starts to drop. This is when you start to see changes in your body.

Everyone is different and the time for this to happen to some is a short time or others it takes longer.

I say this: It took some time to gain, figure it’s gonna take the same amount to lose it.

Key ingredients to the success of losing weight is being CONSISTENT with your work out and your change of eating habits.
